Rise launched with a team of 40 church planters in March of 2014. We spent our first 6 months meeting in the Fairview Community Center in Fairview, OR. It didn’t take long before we outgrew that space and moved to Mountainview Church in Gresham.
As we grew, we took huge steps towards clarifying our vision to Rise Up & Saturate Our City with the Gospel. This means all over our city, you see followers of Jesus rising up to their true calling to bring the presence of Jesus to every corner of our community.
In 2018 we purchased our future home right in the middle of Gresham. The hand of God moved in powerful ways to allow us to purchase the former SkateWorld. From million-dollar donations to construction companies donating the entire buildout, to team members giving thousands of hours, this space was made possible through the generosity of this church.
From 70 people entering the waters of baptism to our largest Rise Kids Camp ever, to tangible partnerships with community outreach like My Father's House and Laundry Love—this was a season filled with incredible fruit. We planted deep roots of Gospel impact in our city.
2020 didn’t go as anyone had planned—but the ministry and mission still went forward. So in September of 2020 Rise launched house churches as a new method in the midst of an unprecedented season. Through 2021, Rise continued to press forward in the midst of chaos. While the world seemed to collapse around us, Rise was a steadfast beacon of hope. The church really is made for these times.
In Fall of 2021, the vision and culture of Rise was expanded further into our city by launching a new Gospel-centered private school in Gresham. Through a team of visionaries from Rise, 8th Street Academy was born. This was a vision-filled move to saturate our city with the Gospel through raising up the next generation to thrive in their God-given calling.
Even though it happened two years behind schedule, and we had already been using our home for house church—it was now time for our Grand Opening. This moment was a vibrant declaration to our city that we are here for the long haul. That we will seek with all we are to be a foretaste of the Kingdom. That we will win this city for the Gospel!
In March of 2023 the former ticket booth to SkateWorld became Pause Coffee Lab. What was once the space where people gained entry to a skating rink, is now a space for people to gain entry into the life and community of our Church.
This video story was created for our 10 Year anniversary celebration to reflect on and celebrate all that God has done in our 10 years of planting in Gresham.
Now is the time to expand our home to multiply our impact. With the influx of kids, youth, and new believers—we need to make room for the next generation of Jesus followers. This endeavor to expand our home is the next step in establishing our kingdom presence here in Gresham.
