Is Jesus the only way to Heaven?

Is Jesus the only way to Heaven?

I think the answer to this question is yes.

To answer the question, “Is Jesus the only way to Heaven?” I would ask another question in return: “What is Heaven all about?”

Many of us might have the idea that Heaven is a place for humans to be eternally happy. Something like the reward for their tough life on earth, or the place of joyful reunion with their loved ones. And, yeah, that’s true. That’s also what Heaven will be for those who believe in Jesus. But that’s definitely not what Heaven is all about.

Then, what is it about?

“In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.” (John 14:2-3, ESV)

Jesus says these things to the eleven disciples that were left in the upper room, after Judas left into the night in order to betray him. The words Jesus uses are carefully chosen. They are the very words that a Jewish bridegroom would chose at the engagement ceremony, when telling his future bride that he was going to marry her. Jesus is telling his disciples, and all Christians, that he is preparing a place in order to be with them. He also talks about it as the place where they will see his glory. (John 17:24)

This place is Heaven.

The Book of Revelation is titled by it’s author John “The Revelation of Jesus Christ” (Rev. 1:1). It shows us, among other things, what happens in Heaven. And without exception, what happens in Heaven is a continuous revealing and worshipping of Jesus Christ! Heaven is the place where Jesus meets with his bride, the Christian Church, and where he is fully and intimately revealed to her in all his glory and in all that He is.

It’s where Jesus takes his bride for the wedding.

“Is Jesus the only way to Heaven?” is the wrong question. The biblical conception of Heaven is a place of eternal nearness with, and worship of Jesus. It’s a place where he reigns as King. Anyone who does not worship Jesus will not want to be there. In fact, Heaven is so Jesus-centered, that the New Ager, the Atheist, or anyone else who does not believe in who Jesus truly is and does not love Him, would want to run away as soon as they got there.

So, Jesus is not only the only way to Heaven, but without Jesus, Heaven would be pointless.

Have a question or a next step on your mind? We’d love to walk with you.
